Product Description

This is pre-mixed Pure Tung Oil and a Solvent from the Real Milk Paint Co. We found that in most cases the Pure Tung Oil is too thick to penetrate most surfaces. Thinning with a natural solvent helps the oil penetrate deeper into the material. The 1 to 1 or Half & Half ratio works great all around for most surfaces like new raw wood, butcher block countertops, cutting boards, concrete, terra cotta clay pots, stone, and slate. This finish is also food contact safe!

Half & Half comes in two options: Citrus Solvent or Pine Solvent

The Citrus Solvent used in this product is food contact safe and is derived from the skin of lemons, oranges, lime, and grapefruit. The Citrus Solvent evaporates into the air. Any time you crush and smell a plant you smell the evaporative oils, this is why there is a citrus scent to this product. 

As citrus peel oil has become more expensive, we wanted to give you a more practical alternative without sacrificing quality. That’s why we’ve introduced a version of our finish mixed with Pine Oil—it’s sustainably sourced, more readily available, and just as effective. The only difference is their source and smell.

Usage

Generally, 3 to 5 coats are needed to seal and create a water-repellent finish. This all-natural finish does take 7 to 10 days to develop water repellency and a full 30 days for a complete cure. A quick way to see the color of your surface before oiling is to just wet it with water. The way it looks wet but not glossy is the color you have when the oil is dry! Can be mixed with any other of our Tung Oil Products (i.e. Pure Tung Oil, Dark Tung Oil, Dark Half, Outdoor Defense Oil). Packaged in fully recyclable HDPE bottles that are BPA and Phthalate-free.

The Tung Oil offered by Real Milk Paint is a 100% pure oil meaning it comes without any heavy metals, additives, or distillates. Most other oils can be anything from a thinned-down varnish to polymerized tung, and most have petroleum distillates added. Ours will not build a gloss finish or heavy finish but will penetrate deeply into the wood to enhance character and water resistance while creating a great wood finish.

This makes this pure tung oil perfect for uses such as wood countertops, bowls, butcher blocks, cutting boards, chopping blocks, outdoor furniture, decks, wood siding, wood flooring, concrete, brick, and just about any porous surface that needs an environmentally friendly product.

Color Impact

Keep in mind, that it’s a natural “Honey” color. Cheaper grades are generally off-color or greenish. Other companies will not talk about the color because it’s their quality does not uphold. But color is important, you are using it to finish your wood so it makes sense that the way it looks plays a big part in the finish of your product.
